Note from webmaster: Since I had to stay home last weekend and sort my sock drawer, I asked around for details about the 6hr .......... who better than from Wes Tipton - Thanks Wes

Springtime racing in the Pacific Northwest is always interesting, with rain, fog and chilly conditions competing with us for track time. However, never has it snowed heavily at a race event in my memory. That was a first, and hopefully the last we'll ever see of that phenomenon.

Sunday March 8 dawned gray, cloudy and cold for most people, but mostly dry. The white moisture unfortunately rolled in to PR in the wee hours and hindered our first two enduro practices, which had to be aborted so the track sweeper could finish the large job of clearing 2.2 miles of asphalt covered snow. Our final 20 minute practice was held on a wet track, and then 24 cars duly rolled off the line at 11:00 am sharp to start the event.

The weirdness began around 12:20 when calls came in warning us of heavy snow coming east from the Kent valley.

Sure enough, it started snowing so hard that by 1:50 we had to call for a red flag and send the pace car out to bring all race cars in to the hot pits.

A drivers meeting was called at 2:30 by the NWERS crew, and due to the continued snowfall and low visibility between turn stations, the event was officially called off.

Trophies were dispensed to the lucky few who were running at the front of their respective classes at the time of the red flag, and everyone wandered off through the snow to pack up and head home. BUT, by 3:00 it had stopped snowing, by 3:30 the sun had emerged, and by 4:30 the snow had melted! Three or four inches of snow come and gone in less than 5 hours! Goofiest week-end any of us could ever remember at a race track, but the remaining slush and standing water on the track surface would have been a dangerous proposition to be sure.

The track personnel estimated at least 2 hours to sweep and vacuum before we could resume, with no guarantees that the rivers of water across many of the turns would subside quickly.

All that can be said is "better luck next time" I guess, but this event will go down in Conference history as one of the strangest races ever seen on the west coast.
